''Lent is not something we do for Jesus,Lent is something we do with Jesus''
Lent is typically observed by various denominations of Christianity, such as Roman Catholics, Lutherans, Anglicans, and more. The word “Lent” comes from the longer Old English word “lencten,” which means “spring.” Although the period of Lent begins in the winter on “Ash Wednesday” (we’ll also cover what this day signifies), it continues into the spring season, concluding on the weekend of Easter Sunday.
Lent for the year 2022 starts on Wednesday, March 2nd and
ends on Thursday, April 14 with evening mass on Holy Thursday. Lent is a
Christian annual period that starts on Ash Wednesday lasting for 40 days (not
Including Sundays) representing the 40 days Jesus spent fasting in the
wilderness. The purpose of Lent is the preparation of the believer for Easter
through prayer, mortifying the flesh, repentance of sins, almsgiving, simple
living, and self-denial.
In the New Testament's Gospel of Matthew, Satan tempts Jesus in the desert for 40 days, prompting a comparable period of fasting and prayer. Each "temptation" was a test of Jesus' faith, an attempt to persuade him to question that he was the son of God or to abandon his religion in exchange for riches and glory. Rather than surrendering to temptation,Jesus responded to Satan by referencing Old Testament Scripture each time. The Devil then fled, and the angels surrounding Jesus as he began to prepare for his mission, according to the account. That’s where the Lenten fast comes in. It hearkens back to these ideas of temptation and sacrifice, and its goal is to help Christians achieve a deeper understanding of their faith. Instead of a 40-day fast, however, Christians might engage in shorter fasts or abstain from things they particularly love, like soda, alcohol, desserts, or social media. When they feel hungry or miss the thing they’re abstaining from, they should acknowledge that and turn to prayer and the Bible.
The end of Lent is symbolic of Jesus' final Passover, which
took place the day before he was crucified (which was the Thursday before Good
Friday). Jesus shared the Last Supper with his followers, bathed their feet,
and commanded them to love one another during this time. This is the origin of
the word maundy, which is a shortened form of the Latin word mandatum, which
implies command. Many churches hold a Maundy Thursday service during which
members of the congregation might partake in communion and watch or participate
in a foot-washing process
Lent is the time of the year where I concentrate on God and
make an effort to recognized and prioritize him more in my daily life.I devote
a significant amount of time to contemplating and meditating on my connection
with God.It's a challenging moment for me to look in the mirror and figure out
where I can improve my actions because most of the time it doesn't match with
my words and promises.

Hi Shai,
ReplyDeleteI like the content of your blog and I agree on everything you shared. We should really be focused on God especially this Lent. Even I experience what you experienced where figuring out where I can improve my actions too. But, may God bless us despite that. Hoping that we will figure out how to improve. Anyways, nice work and keep it up!!!
I’m touched by your honesty. Sometimes we say we care but our actions didn’t match what we are saying. I’ll try also to be a better person in order to be worthy of His love.
