Most people don't realize the effects of their actions, and the huge impacts that simple decisions can make. That needs to change I could go on and on about all of humanity's flaws-and trust me,there are a lot--but today I'll only discuss one:Proper Waste Management.Waste management can be defined as all the activities that are required to manage waste from the point of collecting the waste to recycling and monitoring. The tasks of solid-waste management present complex technical challenges. They also pose a wide variety of administrative, economic, and social problems that must be managed and solved.Toxic waste works its way into the environment;the air, water, and soil.It increases the risks of diseases, destroys nature, and threatens species' livelihood. Toxic waste also affects us because we eat the animals that have the toxic waste inside of them.Animals that eat the animals that have been affected by toxic waste can also be poisoned, and with the food chain so broad, you can see how catastrophic that can and will be.
In the late 1970s the 3 Rs, that stands for ‘reduce’, ‘reuse’, and ‘recycle’ were introduced to give the public a guideline for reducing waste. In 2013, writer Bea Johnson published her book ‘ Zero Waste Home:The Ultimate Guide to Simplify Your Life by Reducing Your Waste. In this book, she added two more Rs to the list, Rot and Refuse. She presented the five Rs as a framework to produce as less waste as possible. Her goal is to help households and businesses to recognize the habits that lead them to produce more waste.First is refusing;it is about eliminating waste from the beginning and declining offers for free stuff that would result in instant waste.Second, reduce stands for reducing what is being purchased and being aware of what it is you need and what you want.Third, before throwing away something and replacing it by a new one, households and businesses are advised to first see if they can reuse or repair it.Furthermore, rot stands for composing, which is also a way of reducing the amount of waste.Lastly,as a last resort, there is recycling. If you have to throw away something, then recycling is known for being the most environmentally friendly method for waste disposal. There are many ways in which we can contribute towards proper waste management. And though it may not feel like an individual can do that much,if everyone did their part, our planet wouldn't be such a mess Some of these strategies, such as education and petitioning, can be used for almost all other important issues in our society too, from racism to health, poverty, and more!Remember, being aware and caring is going a step further than many others.Support Non-government organizations that seek to solve environmental problems particularly solid waste such as the Mother Earth Foundation and Clean and GreenFoundation. Moreover, you mayl also want to support the ABS CBN bantay kalikasan wherein they use their media platform to make the people aware of the environmental problem. Furthermore, advocating greenpeace that aims to change human norms and perspectives on the treatment and protection of nature is a must.Influence your families, friends and acquaintances on simple ways can be a huge help too.We all have the same goal in mind, which is for our Earth to not prematurely die.
I worry one day soon we will
all start to lose what we've built to something entirely dominated by the
systems themselves; or for the loss of freedoms and equities that we've come to
love, yet not nearly enough. And I know you share my concerns for low-income,
vulnerable groups, and number one--the environment, the whole system,Our Earth,
my dear friend.I want to stop pretending that violence is some kind of
adventure. And that there's no fun without the stress of survival right in our
faces; or a good cup of java.Or that the sun stops coming up if we forget to
compete.Or that we don't have a choice, but to continue as is.I'm calling us
out.I want people to feel a world that does work. And that's nature itself-and
not interfered with--in a world full of stewards who lovingly act for the sake
of the planet and not for themselves.I choose to live in my world, 'til others can
join me, no matter how long this joining might take.
