Women Shine During Crisis

“A woman is like a tea bag—you can’t tell how strong she is until you put her in hot water.”

Women empowerment is the process of empowering women. Some people get women empowerment wrong. It doesn’t necessarily mean that women are weak and need others help.Women are no less than anyone, they just have lack of opportunity. This means accepting and allowing women, who are outside the decision making process into it.Empowerment includes raising the status of women through raising awareness, literacy and training.Women’s empowerment is all about equipping and allowing women to male life-determining decisions through different problems in society.

Women,by nature, are vulnerable. But behind that seemingly fragile frame is a strength that emerges as the need arises. As COVID-19 spread to almost every country of the world, women standing at the frontline–as national leaders, primary caregivers, healthcare workers, scientists, volunteers, rural workers–have played and continue to play an important role in getting the pandemic under control.Furthermore, women carried the brunt of caring for the home while doing their share financially to support the family.

There has been much discussion on leadership during the COVID-19 pandemic, with one pattern emerging early on:Female leaders handled the crisis remarkably well.Early academic research on leadership in crisis indicates that women tend to perform better in a crisis. When women lead teams, they bring qualities like compassion, empathy, communication, caring, inspiration and reassurance.By bringing vision and collaboration to the table, women can turn closing doors into opportunities, while introducing new and better ways of doing things. In the COVID-19 context, studies show that women take fewer risks when it comes to protecting human lives.Crisis and conflict affect people on both a social and economic level, especially the most vulnerable which often includes women. That is why it's imperative that women are part of the solutions, plans and decisions made to address this pandemic.

Countries with women who are head of state such as Denmark, Finland, Iceland, New Zealand, Germany and Slovakia have been internationally recognized for the effectiveness of their response to the pandemic. These women leaders were proactive in responding to the threat of the virus, implementing social distancing restrictions early, seeking expert advice to inform health strategies and unifying the country around a comprehensive response with transparent and compassionate communication.

“Ang mga babaeng lider,nagsha-shine (Women leaders shine)during crisis. And ako, pinakita ko ‘yan sa maraming trabaho namin dito sa(And me, I have shown that in many of our works here at the)OVP [Office of the Vice President],marami kaming mga krisis na nalagpasan(we surpassed a lot of crisis)with flying colors,”she told TV host Boy Abunda during an episode of “2022 Presidential One-on-One Interviews” on Wednesday, Jan. 26.She also maintained that being savvy or “madiskarte” should be proven not only through bluster, but through one’s actions.

A world free of bias, stereotypes and discrimination.A world that is diverse, equitable and inclusive.A world where difference is valued and celebrated.Together we can forge women’s equality.Every woman, everywhere, everyday contributes to so many different avenues in life. The best way to appreciate women’s contribution in society is to give their fundamental rights and social equality. One of the ingredients for success in the fight against COVID-19 is gender balance in positions of power and influence within our societies.Gender parity leads to collaboration and blending of visions, as well as supports the formulation of inclusive and comprehensive solutions. Leadership environments with gender parity lead to healthier, stronger and more consensus-based decisions. On this year's International Women's Day, we should recognize the incredible female around the world that is working hard to get us through this crisis

End of Chapter 3

It’s incredible how the time flies so fast like a wind. One more chapter left and I might take a new path again. Our topics for this quarter is something that I never expect and predict.I thought we were going to continue learning more about websites and something that is connected more likely to technology and performance tasks. The topics turn out not to be my prognosis, however I’m not disappointed.

I learned that Community-based research (CBR) is a methodological practice that places community partnerships at the forefront. CBR is in the Community and Benefits the Community. It takes place in community settings and involves community members in the design and implementation of research projects, demonstrates respect for the contributions of success that are made by community partners, as well as respect for the principle of "not harm" to the communities involved. I also found out that we needed these principles for CBR:Collaborative,change-oriented and inclusive.

I also gain knowledge about the categories in community based research and the topics that are under this categories.First, Science,Technology, and Health. Second,Environment and Disaster Preparedness.Third Livelihood and Economics Arts and Culture.Fourth, Language and Literature.Fifth,History and Society Tourism and lastly Entertainment. There are a lot of options that someone can choose to if ever they’re planning to do research on their own community.CBR makes me realized that I am well informed of the things and issues that are needed to address in my own community. It makes me proud and flattered to be able to do my own research about it and gain knowledge and informations I didn’t know exist.

Honestly I don’t have any problems or challenges during this quarter in terms of ICT subject.I passed all my outputs in time except for the blogs because I sometimes forget to post it from my drafts. I love reading, researching and writing the reason why I enjoyed this quarter a lot.In my own perspective,2nd quarter is a lot more harder and difficult because it’s mostly performance task. And as I said in one of my blog before,I don’t excel at things that connected to technology like HTML.I usually take numerous hours in order to finish my ICT task in last quarter, but now that the topic suit for my interest I just finished it within 1hour or more.

Moving on,I will do my best to excel and be responsible on the last quarter even if the topics would turn out to be difficult for me.I shall be responsible and use my time wisely in order to pass everything on time.Furthermore,I will keep all the knowledge that I gain  through my research this quarter and help my community to be it’s best version.

Protect your children against COVID-19,vaccination is a must.

COVID-19 has the potential to make children severely unwell and require hospitalization. In some cases, infection-related consequences can result in death. Research shows these new vaccines are remarkably effective and safe. The AAP urges children and adults to get the COVID-19 vaccine and booster as soon as they are eligible. Being vaccinated and boosted is especially important now. More contagious strains can spread quickly and infect more children. Being fully vaccinated and boosted helps protect kids from serious disease and hospitalization from COVID.

The vaccine helps prevent or reduce the spread of COVID-19: Like adults, children also can transmit the coronavirus to others if they’re infected, even when they have no symptoms.Getting the COVID-19 vaccine can protect the child and others, reducing the chance that they transmit the virus to others, including family members and friends who may be more susceptible to severe consequences of the infection.

Getting vaccinated for COVID-19 can help stop other variants from emerging: Cases of COVID-19 are increasing among children, and the delta variant appears to be playing a role. Reducing viral transmission by getting vaccinated also reduces the virus’ chance to mutate into new variants that may be even more dangerous. However, the virus can transmit easily between unvaccinated children and adults, giving new variants a change to emerge.

COVID-19 vaccines help protect the community.Another reason to strongly consider a COVID-19 vaccine for your child is to protect the health of those living and working in your area. Each child or adult infected with the coronavirus can transmit the virus to others in the community.

If your child has a confirmed COVID-19 infection and is not at high risk from COVID-19, they need to wait 12 weeks before they can have a COVID-19 vaccine. If they are at high risk, or they live with someone who has a weakened immune system, they should wait 4 weeks. This starts from the date their symptoms started or the date of their positive test result, whichever was earlier. If your child has symptoms of COVID-19, but has not had a test, they should wait until their symptoms are better before they get a COVID-19 vaccine. You can talk to a healthcare professional at the vaccination site about this.If your child has certain rare allergies or a history of anaphylaxis, they may be asked to stay for 15 minutes after having the vaccine. This is in the unlikely event they have a serious reaction to the vaccine. If your child has allergies or had a reaction after a previous dose of the COVID-19 vaccine, tell the staff at the vaccination centre or pharmacy before they are vaccinated.Research has found it's very rare to have a serious allergic reaction to the vaccine. If this does happen, it usually happens within minutes.

Your child may have some side effects, which are normal signs that their body is building protection. These are usually mild and should only last 1 or 2 days, such as a sore arm from the injection, feeling tired,a headache, feeling achy,flu-like symptoms including shivering (chills).More serious side effects, such as heart inflammation (myocarditis), are very rare.

Help protect your whole family by getting yourself and your children ages 5 years and older vaccinated against COVID-19. Having your child vaccinated for COVID can help restore a more normal life.“Getting vaccinated will also help keep children in school and participating in the things they enjoy,” Sick-Samuels says. “Children exposed to the coronavirus who are vaccinated are less likely to get infected, and so are more likely to be able to continue participating with less disruptions to school attendance and other activities.”

The day of Valour

“Isabuhay ang Kagitingan,Kapayapaan ay Pagkaisahan, Kamtin ang Mithing Kaunlaran.”

The Day of Valour, also known as the Araw ng Kagitingan, commemorates the Filipino and American soldiers who stood up against Japanese forces during World War II.This is a regular holiday in the Philippines and occurs on or around April 9. Many streets are closed and public transport routes may be redirected to give way for parades. Malls and other leisure areas remain open and most people may go to these places and use this day as a family day.

On 9 April 1942, Luzon Force, Bataan commander Major General Edward P King, Jr, surrendered more than 76,000 of his starving and disease-ridden troops (64,000 Filipinos and 12,000 Americans) to Japan. As captives, the soldiers were forced to endure the infamous 140-kilometre Bataan Death March to Camp O'Donnell in Capas, Tarlac. Along the way, thousands died due to famine, heat prostration, untreated wounds, and wanton or execution-style murder.Historians believe that only 54,000 of the 76,000 prisoners were able to reach Camp O'Donnell. The exact number of deaths and escapees was difficult to assess.

The week-long observance is an occasion to honor not only the Filipino war veterans who died or served the country but also to remember those who rendered honorable military service in defending the country in times of war or peace. This is to gratefully acknowledge their contributions in preserving our sovereignty and defending our national security. The commemoration of the Day of Valor teaches us to honor the courage of our forefathers and the sacrifices of our frontline workers today. These acts of heroism remind us to be altruistic, patriotic, and fearless.Isang mapagpalang Araw ng Kagitingan!
